Can You Catch Mewtwo in Pokemon GO?
Unfortunately, you can’t catch Mewtwo in the wild, but you can catch Mewtwo through events that Niantic announces from time to time. To catch Mewtwo and his shiny counterparts, you’ll need to keep an eye out for specific 5-star raids. Unfortunately, Mewtwo’s last 5-star raid ended on June 23, 2022.
With no concrete update on when we can expect another 5-star raid for regular Mewtwo, players have no choice but to opt for Shadow Mewtwo for the time being. This variant can be obtained by facing Giovanni, with Shadow Mewtwo as part of his lineup. Once you defeat him, you’ll have a chance to catch the Pokémon.
How To Get Shadow Mewtwo?
To face Giovanni and capture Shadow Mewtwo, you must first obtain the Super Missile Radar by completing the new Ultimate Beast Protection Special Research mission.

To access this new special research, you must complete all of Team Rocket’s old unfinished research missions. Additionally, if you get the Super Missile Radar from the old Research Center, it will still allow you to encounter Giovanni. In this case, there is no need to complete the tedious work of the Ultra Beast.
However, if you choose the Ultra Beast Protection Endeavor route, you should know that you need to complete a total of four missions to obtain Shadow Mewtwo. For your convenience, we have listed all tasks below:
